Ambassador of Ukraine Yaroslav Melnyk met with H.E. Mr. Christophe de Nijs, Director-General for European Affairs of the Belgian FPS Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, the Ambassador of Ukraine expressed his appreciation for Belgium’s support in the context of the European Parliament’s recent vote in favour of legislation to make a €90 billion EU loan available to Ukraine for 2026 and 2027.
The Parties discussed current issues of cooperation on the sanctions track, in particular in the framework of adopting the EU’s 20th sanctions package.
Ambassador Melnyk emphasized the need to intensify efforts to counter the activities of Russia’s “shadow fleet,” including within Belgium’s exclusive economic zone in the North Sea and urged the Belgian side to consider adopting relevant national measures to impose an entry ban to the EU on Russian citizens who participated in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
We thank Belgium and the Belgian people for their steadfast, consistent, and principled support of Ukraine.
