On 8-10 October 2012, the official delegation of Mykolaiv region, headed by the Adviser of Mykolaiv Oblast State Administration, the President of the Regional Chamber of Commerce of Mykolaiv region Mr. Igor Katvalyuk, pays a three day working visit to Belgium.
On 8 October, presentation of the economic potential of Mykolaiv region was held in the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Belgium with the participation of business community of Brussels.
Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Belgium Mr. Ihor Dolgov congratulated those present on this occasion in his ceremonial opening speech, noting the importance of such events in the context of regionalization and economization of Ukrainian foreign policy, emphasized by our leaders last week in Kyiv during the 11th conference of Ukraine’s Ambassadors.
Mr. Igor Katvalyuk took the floor with welcoming speech on behalf of the Head of Mykolaiv Oblast State Administration Mr. Mykola Kruglov. He noted deep historical roots in cooperation of Mykolaiv region with Belgium. In particular, Belgian consulate was opened in Mykolaiv in 1881. And in 2012 there will be the 115th anniversary of the founding by Belgian entrepreneurs of Shipyard "Naval", now - the Black Sea Shipyard.
Mayor of Mykolaiv Mr. Vladimir Chaika, in turn, stressed the city government’s interests in developing of trade and economic cooperation with partners from Belgium.
Business community of Belgium was informed of opportunities of Mykolaiv region, its developed transport infrastructure, strong export potential and prospects for agricultural and tourism sectors, as well as considerable scientific and educational level.
In the course of event the Belgian-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Regional Mykolaiv Chamber of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, as well as Cooperation Agreement between the ports of Mykolaiv and Ghent.
Mykolaiv region’s delegation will also have meetings with business and official circles of the cities of Ghent, Liege and Halle-Vilvoorde.
