On 9 September 2010 in Brussels Representative of Ukraine to the European Union H.E. Mr.Kostiantyn Yelisieiev presented letters of credence to the President of the European Commission H.E. Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso.
At the meeting the President stressed the importance of continuing the implementation of democratic, social and economic reforms in Ukraine and confirmed the readiness of the European Commission to provide a comprehensive support to Ukraine’s approximation to the EU standards.
He underlined the strategic importance of Ukraine for development of stable, prosperous and secure Europe.
The interlocutors shared common approaches of both sides towards the progress in negotiations on the Association Agreement, visa liberalization and energy security.
K.Yelisieiev assured the President Barroso that the European integration course of Ukraine as the priority for state modernization remains unchanged.
Jose Barroso emphasized the importance of a continued dialogue between Ukraine and the EU on the highest level and reiterated his readiness to meet the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in Brussels in the nearest future.
With entrance of the Lisbon Treaty into force, newly appointed heads of foreign diplomatic missions to the European Union present their letters of credence both to the President of the European Commission and to the President of the EU Council. The credentials were presented to the President of the European Council on 8 September 2010.
