Today in Namur the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC) took place.

The event was opened by the President of the House of Representatives of Belgium Eliane Tillieux, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Hadja Lahbib, Senator and Co-Chair of the Federal Advisory Committee on European Affairs Gaëtan Van Goidsenhoven and Member of the European Parliament Guy Verhofstadt.

The Head of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze took part in the COSAC meeting.

During the event, the participants discussed the priorities of the Belgian presidency of the Council of the EU, social rights in the EU and the future enlargement of the EU.

The Head of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze delivered a speech, emphasizing the need to protect Europe from russia and the importance of the security component. Special emphasis was placed on EU enlargement and Ukraine's EU membership acquisition.

In the framework of the event, the Head of the Committee I.Klympush-Tsintsadze met with the President of the House of Representatives of Belgium Eliane Tillieux and Senator and Co-Chair of the Federal Advisory Committee on European Affairs Gaëtan Van Goidsenhoven. The parties discussed the current security situation in Ukraine, the need for further military, humanitarian and financial assistance to Ukraine, as well as increasing sanctions pressure on russia, making it impossible to circumvent sanctions. The Ukrainian delegation expressed gratitude for the unprecedented support of Belgium to Ukraine in the context of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to the armed aggression of russia. The Belgian side emphasized the importance of continuing to provide support to Ukraine.
