10 September 2015 21:23

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn, who arrived in Ukraine to take part in the 12th YES Forum.

According to the Head of State, Ukraine is hopeful that Luxembourg, which presides in the EU Council in the second half of the year, will increase the EU’s support and solidarity with Ukraine in the issue of confronting Russian aggression and implementing reforms.

The parties discussed the development of the situation in Donbas, the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements and the aftermath of the recent phone conversations in the framework of the Normandy format. Petro Poroshenko emphasized that the most important task for today is to secure full and sustainable ceasefire.

The Head of State stressed that Ukraine makes tremendous efforts to solve humanitarian problems of people who found themselves in the occupied areas of Donbas. Particularly, humanitarian-logistic centers are being opened in the checkpoints on the touch line, where people can buy all the necessary commodities at Ukrainian prices that are much lower than the prices in the occupied territories.

In his turn, Jean Asselborn commended strict fulfillment of the Minsk agreements by Ukraine.

The parties discussed prospects of completing the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. The President informed that the Italian Senate ratified the Agreement today and expressed hope that Greece and Cyprus will not delay the given decision.

The interlocutors also discussed prospects of introducing visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens.

The President asked the Foreign Minister to convey the invitation to Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel to visit Ukraine.

The President expressed hope that the Yalta European Strategy Forum which was founded in Crimea and moved to Kyiv because of the annexation of the peninsula will return to the Ukrainian Crimea.
