On 3 March 2014, on the eve of the extraordinary EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, Ambassador of Ukraine to Belgium and Luxembourg (accredited), Head of Mission of Ukraine to NATO Ihor Dolhov held the meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn.
Ambassador of Ukraine informed about the recent development of situation in the country and measures, being implemented by Ukraine’s Government with the purpose to stop escalation of military intervention by the Russian Federation. Ihor Dolhov mentioned, that taking into account the threat for state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for the Euro-Atlantic system of security as a whole, for the first time Ukraine implemented mechanisms of urgent consultations in crisis situation (according to Ukraine-NATO Charter on Distinctive Partnership) and expressed gratitude to the delegation of Luxembourg for the support, expressed on 2 March, in relevant NATO statement.
Foreign Minister assured that Luxembourg has the intention to strongly continue the support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the framework of its capacities within the framework of European Union and UN Security Council.
Ukrainian side called to use all possible actions in order to stop the aggression, to de-escalate the situation and to return to its political settlement. Ambassador of Ukraine also stressed the importance of urgent deployment of international missions with the purpose of monitoring and assisting to resolve the situation.
Jean Asselborn also reassured that, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Belgium are also preparing joint measures in the framework of Benelux to support Ukraine.
