On February 25, 2014, Ambassador of Ukraine to Belgium Ihor Dolhov had a meeting with Secretary-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of Belgium Dirk Achten.
During the meeting the Ambassador of Ukraine informed the Secretary-general about the current political situation in Ukraine, the key decisions of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian Parliament) aimed at further developing the political process in Ukraine andsetting the date to hold early presidential elections on May 25, 2014, as well as the decision of the Ukrainian Parliament to appoint Mr. Oleksandr Turchynov the acting President of Ukraine.
Ambassador Dolhov appreciated the participation of the European Union and its member states in assisting in settling the political situation in Ukraine and finding a compromise.
Dirk Achten welcomed actions of the Parliament and the new leadership of Ukraine aimed at the settlement of the political crisis and returning Ukraine to the democratic development and the European integration pace. He stressed that Belgium together with the European Union are ready to provide necessary support in implementing the reforms.
