Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn and His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg discussed a wide range of issues concerning bilateral and international relations.
In the interview to the media, V. Lytvyn said that "the conversation was interesting, significant, and useful for Ukraine, as it demonstrated a positive attitude towards our country."
According to the head of the parliament, the Parties discussed Ukraine´s fulfillment of conditions of gas contract with Russia. They discussed "how Ukraine is tackling this issue." "We are holding negotiations, demanding a transparent and fair pricing policy, not preferences," V. Lytvyn claimed. "It is a subject of bilateral relations, whereby negotiations should be conducted from a perspective of our country." V. Lytvyn attaches importance to the transparent solution of this problem and consideration of Ukraine´s point of view. He also stressed that settlement of this issue depends on both Ukraine and Russia.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said that any assistance of the European community will be appreciated. "I expect that declarations will be followed by practical actions," he said.
The Parties also discussed political situation and Euro-integrational aspirations of Ukraine. V. Lytvyn said that Luxembourg called for removing obstacles to the development of Ukraine-EU relations.
Relations between Ukraine and the neighboring states and settlement of the Transnistrian conflict were discussed, as well.
The Parties raised the issue of overcoming the aftermath of the Chornobyl disaster.
