On 24 February 2015 the discussion on "European Security and Relations with Russia:Cooperation or Escalation?" was held by the Goethe Institute Brussels in cooperation with PolAk (Austria) and Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies and Hanns Seidel Foundation.
Dr. Werner FASSLABEND, President, Political Academy of the ÖVP, Chairman of the Academic Council at Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, members of the European Parliament, Dr. Hans-Friedrich von PLOETZ, former German Ambassador (London, NATO, Moscow) and Markus BEYRER, Director-General of Business Europe Organization took part in the debates.
During the discussion the EU representatives stressed that relationswithRussiaareamajorforeignpolicychallengefortheEU. The conflict in Ukraine and annexation of Crimea indicate what became more and more evident throughout the last years: Russia perceives the EU as a political and economic rival. The concept of common space and the EU-Russia partnership in the sphere of modernization are now in the past.
The European politicians and experts condemned aggressive actions of Russia regarding Ukraine. These actions contradict the basic principles of international law and undermine confidence, peace and stability in Europe.
