While investigating beating of Tetiana Chornovil, investigators process requests by mass media.
Investigators have analyzed an address by the former owner of the “TVi” TV channel Kostyantyn Kagalovskyi in which he states that Sergiy Kotenko, who is suspected of beating Tetiana Chornovil, was involved in the forcible takeover of this TV channel. Kagalovskyi also notes that People’s Deputies Mykola Knyazhytskyi and Davyd Zhvania have relation to the suspect’s activities.
The investigation has come to a conclusion that Sergiy Kotenko was the founder and director of the company that controlled the “TVi” TV channel.
A summon of these People’s Deputies for interrogation to the Head Investigation Office of the Ministry of Interior of Ukraine stems from a necessity to clarify the information provided by Kagalovskyi. In particular, with regard to their involvement in committing the aforementioned criminal offense.
The investigation also discovered that detainees maintained close contact with members of the “Udar” party Yevgen Ogarkov, Dmytro Kreinyn and Ihor Opadchyi. The latter two are deputies of the Kiev regional council from the “Udar” party. Besides, ties between the suspects and People’s Deputy from the “Batkivshchyna” faction Volodymyr Polochaninov have been traced.
The investigation already has evidence that one of the suspects, Olexander Kotenko, was a member of the Savlohov crime group. This group was part of a criminal network controlled by Rybalko, a.k.a Rybka, who was killed in 2005 and with whom the Klytschko brothers closely cooperated.
Currently investigators are examining alibis of some of the detainees, information about whom appeared in the media. However, their absence from the scene of the incident at the time of the offense does not preclude their involvement in the attack on Tetiana Chornovil as accessories or organizers. Therefore, all persons are detained on a reasonable basis and are tested by the investigation as to their involvement in the crime.
On the whole, according to the provisions of Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine five persons were detained for criminal offense against Tetiana Chornovil. All detainees were informed of suspicion of committing crimes, stipulated by part 2 of Article 296 (Hooliganism) and part 2 of Article 121 (Premeditated heavy injury) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The investigation body has prepared and submitted to the court the request to apply preventive measures against four persons. As of today the court has ruled to apply as a preventive measure keeping one of the suspects in custody.
‘I also want to note that the primary goal of the investigation is establishing persons, who ordered this crime,’ Chief of the Head Investigation Office of the Ministry of Interior of Ukraine Mykola Chynchyn informed.
